New API to millions of news stories

Yabot is today pre-releaseing its new open API that allow developers to access millions of news stories - totally free.
- The new open Yabot API (application programming interface) will give developers an easy route to interaction and integration of news stories, explains Mats Ingelborn, cofounder and Managing Director of Yabot Ltd.
The Yabot news network currently holds some 15 millions news stories in its 13 month archive. The stories come from thousands of publishers in several regions including the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland.
- As we make our archives public and free we hope to see developers leveraging the stories to enhance existing solutions and build new cool applications, continues Ingelborn.
The open Yabot API is still in Beta and we appreciate developers feedback as we make the API ready for 1.0. Developers can now access the "Yabot Development and Integration Wiki" at http://tr.im/mp3h for documentation and examples.
Free Yabot account
Even if the API is open and free to use, developers will have further advantages using a Yabot account. It is free to sign up for a Yabot account at http://d2.yabot.net (Beta site) and we currently offer all developers a free upgrade to the first year of a Blue account (value €300). To get the free upgrade, first sign up for a free account, then email Yabot at my@yabot.net with the subject API and your email address. We will then get you a complimentary Yabot account at the Blue level.

Rethinking Firefox 3

[UPDATED 22 Aug]: After some further investigation it's been found to be a plug-in with Firefox causing the problems not Firefox itself. So, as long as you do not install and enable Firebug (whish is a development tool) you are safe.
Having used and even cherished version 3 of Mozilla's web browser Firefox for some time I am now rethinking the recommendation... The last updates has made our life seem out of place or just disorganized. The reason for this is that Firefox changed its rendering or just interpretation of the small but handy pop-ups Yabot use for all sort of actions.
If you are using Firefox 3 you have probably noticed that some (not all) of the dialogue windows and pop-ups are a bit misplaced, often a bit more to the right of the screen than intended. We have not yet found a solution to this annoying behaviour but we are rethinking the recommendation of moving to Firefox 3. Firefox 2, Safari and even MS Internet Explorer is working as expected. Please be assured that we are targeting this new "error" in Firefox 3 as we are convinced Firefox 3 is a major browser to be compatible with but so far not much luck.

Hijack a search result

This week we will start testing a new Yabot feature - hiYaq.
By hijacking a Yabot query (hiYaq) you can reuse the search result over and over. Use and distribute it as an RSS, read it in a newly developed Widget or republish on any web page. The hiYaq is an easy route to have news on a specific subject displayed on your web page or distributed to your pairs as an RSS or in a Widget. Right now hiYaq is available on the EU site (http://www.yabot.eu) but will be introduced to the other Yabot sites during the week.
We appreciate your feedback!
