Join Yabot in supporting 3rd world entrepreneurs

We want to invite you to our lending team on Kiva, a nonprofit website that allows you to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur across the globe. You choose who to lend to - but within the Yabot-team we intend to focus on media and technology related investments- and as the entrepreneur repay the loan, you get your money back.

If you join the Yabot lending team, we can work together to alleviate poverty. Once you're a part of the team, you can choose to have a future loan on Kiva "count" towards our team's impact. The loan is still yours, and repayments still come to you - but you can also choose to have the loan show up in our team's collective portfolio, so our team's overall impact will grow!

Unreachable servers

First I'd like to apologies for the recent unavailability of the Yabot services. I'd also like to explain what happened - if possible...

On Friday 15 May (at about 17.15 CET) we noticed servers not being available, so we contacted the Internet fiber provider and they started searching for the problem. Internally, we started to make sure all our servers, firewalls, routers and God knows what, were up and running. We reset, restarted and tested and to our best knowledge everything was fine at our end. This was close to midnight Friday - still no further info from the Internet provider.
Come Saturday we continued to bug the provider and they finally managed to chased up a technician that were going to call us within two hours - that never happened. Kind of the same story during Sunday... Monday morning and new support staff to call - after a short call and a restart of the provider's equipment located at our server room the connection was up and running again.
So, in retrospect this 40 hours outage was due to a series of unfortunate events, as it often is. We did not touch equipment that wasn't ours (and I still think that was the right decision), support staff not knowing or understanding the basics of their network and technicians not working "hard enough" off hours.

I know we learnt a bit on this and I hope our feedback to our Internet provider take them further. We have also ordered a secondary Internet connection that can work as a backup if the primary one fails (although the fiber should not fail).
Once again I'm truly sorry for not being there and I hope we can avoid this in the future.

Yabot recommend Firefox 3.

Today we welcome a brand new version of the Firefox web browser - version 3.
We have personally used Firefox 3 with Yabot for some months and we strongly recommend current Firefox users to migrate to the new release. Part from many new features Firefox 3 is faster and lighter than the current Firefox version. Recommended!

Sorry for not being there

As Thursday's simple electricity maintenance was over in a few minutes we decided to upgrade the server OS and web application platform to the latest releases - in retrospect this may not have been that clever... Well as you may have noticed many (but not all) Yabot sites has been unavailable since Thursday evening but all should now be working OK part from the UK site that need a few more hours of TLC. Terribly sorry for the inconvenience.
